Description
Hosted by the Bemidji State University Department of Music, the annual Woodwind & Piano Day will take place on Sept. 22. This event, instructed by Bemidji State music faculty, is open free to all middle school-, high school- and college-level music students, band directors and local music enthusiasts. The day includes master classes, workshops and instrument-specific classes focusing on woodwind and piano performance and education. Instruments and accessories will be available for purchase from local and national vendors in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex main lobby. Woodwind and Piano Day is open free for anyone who is interested in attending. Registration begins at 10 a.m. in Bangsberg; interested participants can also register on the Department of Music website. Woodwind and Piano Day concludes with a 4:30 p.m. recital featuring BSU music faculty. Performers include Dr. Stephen Carlson, professor of music and chair of the BSU Department of Music; Heather Guidry, adjunct instructor of music; Dr. Benjamin Cold, adjunct professor of music; Miriam Webber, assistant professor of music; Dr. Lauren McNee, adjunct faculty of music; and Dr. Scott Guidry, assistant professor of music and director of bands. Timeline 11 a.m. – noon — Woodwind and piano master class hosted by the BSU music faculty 1–2 p.m. – Panel sessions 2–3 p.m. – Breakout sessions 3–4 p.m. – Reading sessions 4–4:30 p.m. – Q&A with current BSU music students 4:30–6 p.m. – Free closing recital featuring BSU music faculty The 2018 Woodwind & Piano Day is sponsored by Groth Music, Schmitt Music, the Upper Midwest Flute Association, Schmitt Music Flute Gallery, Légère Reeds Ltd., E.
