Watermark Art Center announces upcoming classes for adults, children
BEMIDJI, MN – Watermark Art Center has an exciting lineup of art classes happening throughout the month of March. Don’t miss these great opportunities for all ages to participate in hands-on learning experiences!
On Saturday, March 2, instructor Lisa Jordan will teach a class on making a felted nest. From 1 - 4 p.m., attendees 12 and older can channel their inner robin and use the needle-felting technique to build a nest made of wool and other natural materials. They will learn how different materials behave when felting, and to sculpt over a resist. A wide variety of fibers, twigs and other natural materials will be provided. Class is $40/person, plus a $10 materials fee.
Second Saturday Kids Art will be held March 9 from 1-2:30 p.m. For this month’s project, kids 6 and older will create cardstock animals using watercolors and collage. There will be five different animal templates to choose from, all of which include hinged – or moving – features. Cost is $15/person ($12 for members). Parents can drop their kids off and are not required to stay.
Art Family Style is a monthly opportunity for families to participate in an art project together. Make memories with your loved ones for only $5/family! The next event, held Thursday, March 21, will be an evening of creating with clay! Families will work together to create textured, footed clay trinket trays. Projects will be left at Watermark for drying and picked up at a later date. This is a drop-in style class; come by Watermark any time between 5-6:30 p.m. to work on your tray, no pre-registration required.
On March 29-30, learn how to make felted stones with instructor Lisa Jordan. Felted stones make unique and natural fiber art objects that have a pleasing weight in the hand. Creating them is often a meditative process. In the first session, held March 29 from 5 - 7 p.m., attendees will learn to wet-felt soft wool around a stone to make a seamless felted surface on which to stitch. Each person will make 2-3 felted stones of their own. Stones will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring a special rounded stone of their own if they would like (no bigger than palm size). In the second session, held March 30 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., attendees will learn some tricks to stitching on this non-traditional surface. Some basic knowledge of embroidery stitches is helpful but not required. You must attend both days. Minimum age is 12. Cost is $45, plus an $8 materials fee.
Registration for each of these classes, along with further details, can be found at watermarkartcenter.org. Watermark Art Center is a member-supported nonprofit dedicated to encouraging the growth and development of art. They are located at 505 Bemidji Ave N.
