Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities
Bemidji State University (BSU) invites qualified applicants to join our team as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities.
The Director of Choral Activities has a long history of excellence and we are looking for an individual to take this tradition forward with new energy for our institution. Duties will include vocal ensemble direction/coordination, course instruction and supporting the recruitment activities of the School of Music and greater university.
Responsibilities of the Assistant or Associate Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities include:
- Serving as the Director of Choral Activities, conducting The Bemidji Choir, Chamber Singers, and Musikanten Tenor, Baritone and Bass Choir.
- Coordinating and/or collaborating with choral faculty and ensembles, such as Bel Canto Treble Choir.
- Planning and implementing any tours and/or major choral concert events.
- Teaching undergraduate courses in areas of choral studies such as conducting, choral studies, choral literature and choral composition/arranging. Courses are historically offered on a rotating basis of one per semester. Other courses could be offered or developed, based on the candidate’s strengths and desires.
- Collaborating with colleagues on performances across the department of music.
- Contributing to a program of passionate performance and excellence of scholarship within the discipline, student advising, service to the university and community, and other associated faculty duties.
- Contributing to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University's signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
- The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
- Assisting with programmatic accreditation.
- Terminal degree or ABD in choral conducting from a nationally accredited institution at the start of employment.
- Evidence of success in choral conducting, teaching and performance.
- Demonstrated skill in choral composition and/or arranging.
- Desire for national/international recognition in choral excellence and recruitment.
- Record of success in choral ensemble and program development.
- Strong desire and ability to work in a collaborative academic and performance environment.
- Completed doctorate in choral conducting from a nationally accredited institution at the start of employment.
- The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
