Assistant Professor of Psychology

Bemidji State University (BSU) invites applicants to join our team as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. BSU’s vision is to educate people to lead inspired lives. BSU is located amid the lakes and forests of northern Minnesota and occupies a wooded campus along the shore of Lake Bemidji.  BSU balances rigorous academia with the opportunity to enjoy a fun, robust, outdoor culture.  The proximity to the lake and the surrounding north woods allows easy access to an assortment of recreation.  Major campus facilities are connected by all-season underground passages for safe and warm travel during the cold, winter months. 
 
Enrolling more than 5,100 students, BSU offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and eight graduate degrees encompassing arts, sciences and select professional programs. BSU is a member of the Minnesota State system of colleges and universities and has a faculty and staff of more than 550. The Department of Psychology is dedicated to training students who will apply their psychological knowledge in an increasingly diverse world. The Department strives to cultivate an inclusive community that values diverse questions, viewpoints, approaches, and participants to foster ingenuity, challenge biases, and promote intellectual growth.
 
The Assistant Professor of Counseling/Clinical Psychology will have the opportunity to:

  • Teach both on-campus and online courses in undergraduate psychology within our current course schedule and curriculum, and the potential development of other courses as related to their area of expertise.
  • Teach other core psychology courses within the curriculum as needed.
  • Contribute to student growth and development by establishing a program of scholarship within the discipline, providing student advising and internship supervision, promoting a supportive climate for a diverse student population.
  • Provide interdisciplinary involvement in activities that support BSU’s Shared Fundamental Values.
  • Contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the Department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities. 
 
To succeed in this role, the Department requires an applicant who:
  • will have earned a Doctorate in Psychology, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment;
  • demonstrates a knowledge of and interest in working with diverse cultures and populations, including nontraditional and underrepresented students;
  • has the ability to integrate diversity and cultural content in teaching, scholarship, and service; and
  • provides evidence of successful quality teaching and demonstrated experience with assessing student learning.
 
The Department prefers an applicant who:
  • has expertise in Indigenous/American Indian communities, and/or racial and ethnic minorities, and/or marginalized communities, and/or disabilities;
  • possesses the ability to design and deliver online courses; and/or
  • has evidence of supporting student research.

  • In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MinnState) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, faculty and staff driving on college/university business, who use a rental or state vehicle, shall be required to complete a vehicle Use Agreement form and conform to MinnState's vehicle use criteria and consent to a motor vehicle records check.
