Bemidji State University (BSU) invites applicants to join our team as the Assistant Director of Admissions, Campus Visit Programs, Post-Secondary Enrollment Options and Local K-12 Relations.  BSU’s vision is to educate people to lead inspired lives. BSU is located amid the lakes and forests of northern Minnesota and occupies a wooded campus along the shore of Lake Bemidji.  BSU balances rigorous academia with the opportunity to enjoy a fun, robust, outdoor culture.  The proximity to the lake and the surrounding north woods allows easy access to an assortment of recreation.  Major campus facilities are connected by all-season underground passages for safe and warm travel during the cold, winter months. 
Enrolling more than 5,100 students, BSU offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and eight graduate degrees encompassing arts, sciences and select professional programs. BSU is a member of the Minnesota State system of colleges and universities and has a faculty and staff of more than 550. The Assistant Director of Admission will oversee Campus Visit Programs, including tours, group tours, open houses and other campus visit events related to Admissions, including the oversight of the University Ambassador program (hiring, training, evaluation), in conjunction with the Campus Visit Coordinator. This role is responsible for local outreach (within 40 miles of campus), admissions, and coordinating BSU’s Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program and its associated campus activities. This position serves as the primary contact for practices, policy, and procedural work relating to PSEO coursework at BSU.
Frequent regional travel and occasional evening, weekend and overnight travel are required.  In order to load and unload recruitment materials (displays, handouts, or other related items), staff must be able to lift/carry up to 40 lbs.  The successful candidate must also possess a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a driving history background check.

  • Facilitate on-campus and virtual visit programs, including tours, group tours, open houses and other campus visit experiences.
    • Plan, promote, facilitate and evaluate campus visit events for prospective students, including middle and elementary school aged students. This includes both campus-based events, as well as virtual events.
    • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of University Ambassadors, ensuring a high-quality experience for campus visitors.
    • Direct the work of the Campus Visit Coordinator.
  • Coordinate BSU’s PSEO program and related services and maximize the engagement with our PSEO and Concurrent Enrollment (CE) students.
    • Serve as the primary contact for practices, policy, and procedural work relating to PSEO coursework at BSU.
    • Develop and implement strategies to promote continued enrollment at BSU by integrating traditional admissions recruitment work for those students earning PSEO and CE credits.
    • Review all PSEO admission applications, maintain communication with PSEO enrollees, advise and register PSEO students, assist the Center for Extended Learning (CEL) with the promotion and maintenance of CE partnerships. Advise and register continuing PSEO students in a timely and professional manner. Work collaboratively with high school counselors to ensure that the needs of the student, high school and university are being met.
    • Present PSEO and CE opportunities to regional K-12 schools.
  • Recruit and conduct outreach as the primary admissions representative for local (within 40 miles) high schools.
    • Represent BSU and recruit at high schools, colleges, college fairs and special events within assigned local territory.
    • Prepare and arrange schedule of visits and recruitment efforts within the assigned local territory based upon CRM data, historical trends and analytics tools within local territory.
    • Meet with students/parents/families visiting campus from the associated territory. Accurately communicate/represent admissions requirements, academic programs and student activities/life opportunities. Effectively utilize marketing materials, social media and vendor tools.
    • Move target students through the enrollment funnel progress and compliment the communication flows. Timely follow up to address incomplete applications, admissions review process and criteria, and appeals procedures.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in admissions or advising in a higher education setting.
  • Experience working in education environments that serve a large number of first generation, rural, and/or diverse students.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills across multiple functional areas from administration, to academics, to high school counselors, to students and their parents.
  • Deep knowledge of undergraduate admission standards and, at a minimum, be familiar with processes and guidelines for PSEO admission.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • Master’s degree in a field relating to the position goals, including but not limited to education, leadership, communication, or business; and/or four (4) or more years of admissions or advising experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience advising and reviewing admission of PSEO students in the Minnesota State system or similar public university system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and interest in working with diverse cultures and populations, including nontraditional and underrepresented students.

  • In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MinnState) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, faculty and staff driving on college/university business, who use a rental or state vehicle, shall be required to complete a vehicle Use Agreement form and conform to MinnState’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a motor vehicle records check.

  • This is a Minnesota State University Associate of Administrative and Service Faculty (MSUAASF) Range C position with minimum salary starting at $43,785. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and is determined by the collective bargaining agreement between Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MinnState) and the MSUAASF organization.

  • Tuition waiver is available upon hire, which allows staff to further their education by taking courses at BSU or any other Minnesota State university.
