Getting Hooked on Fly Fishing
Are you interested in Fly Fishing? Did you know that you can catch more than trout by fly fishing? Join us for a new program where you will learn how to tie your own flies and use a fly rod to fish for species you can find in northern Minnesota. This program will target different species of fish that are enjoyable and easy to catch – trout, panfish, bass and northern pike. The program will provide instruction on tying flies for a specific species and be coupled with fly fishing instruction to include casting, fly fishing tactics, and safety. And best of all there will be local trips to fly fish for those particular species. The goal is to dispel myths that fly fishing is only for trout, that it takes place only in rivers, or that it is difficult to learn. This program is designed for first-time anglers or those with traditional fishing experience, age 10 and up. We require any youth participant age 10 - 16 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A valid Minnesota fishing license is required for participants 16 and over. The program will take place at the historic South Shore Old Mill building located in South Shore Park (527 Lakeshore Drive, Bemidji, MN 56601) with a beautiful view of Lake Bemidji. Parking for this park is located in the Sanford Center Parking lot.
